Lori Gomez is a self-taught artist who began her Louisiana based business in 2002.
With a preferred medium of acrylic paint, her work has been featured in numerous media stories including a WWL-TV segment of “Naturally Nawlins” with Chef and Journalist Frank Davis. Some of Lori’s public art projects are featured throughout the metropolitan New Orleans area. These include 7 streetcars for the popular “Streetcar Named Inspire “ project for the Young Leadership Council of New Orleans, 5 Bead Dogs for the La. SPCA’s “Bead Dog” project, and 4 pelicans for the Northshore Leadership’s “Pelicans on Parade” project to raise money for Rainbow Childcare. Additionally a 35ft Mardi Gras Float Mural featuring 21 commissioned portraits of riders, which is featured in Olde Towne Slidell.
In 2005, Lori’s creation of public art hit closer to home with a Life-size Nativity that spans over one acre.
She created the Nativity to lift the spirits of her community following Hurricane Katrina. It draws countless visitors to her home every year and has received extensive media coverage. In 2013 Lori created a Life-size Nativity for the city of Slidell’s public Christmas Display.
In 2014 she began the process of completely renovating the city’s Christmas display “Christmas under the Stars” which was severely damaged during Hurricane Katrina. To date she has completed 5 cottages and continues to add to the display every year.
In October 2013 when Frank Davis was no longer able to do his column for Slidell Magazine in honor of him she began her column “Tempting the Palette” where she got to combine her love of cooking with art. In May of 2015 she left the magazine and began running the column on a blog on her website LoriGomezArt.com. She served as Chair of the Cultural Economy Coalition for 3 years.
Lori Gomez founded the Camellia City Arts Advocates Group (C2A2)
The organization is an independent group of community leaders, business owners and artist that work together to promote and advocate for the Arts. They joined forces with The Mothership Foundation for 2 yrs. to bring Slidell its first 3 day music festival “Festival Bonfouca”. Lori is also noted for her generosity, giving her time and talent to many charitable organizations.
Since 2009 sales of her artwork have raised over $250,000 for various charities.
Because of her appreciation for our military in 2015 Lori restored and painted a 100 yr. old Beatles themed piano for Habitat for Humanity’s Veteran’s Build. The piano was signed by Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney.
The piano sold for $98,000. This was enough money to build a home for a veteran.
In 2016 Lori decided to paint poppies on her old wood fence. This was something she simply did for herself. She had no idea how those images would affect the spirit of so many. Within 1 week images of her Poppy fence had gone viral and were shared thousands of times all over the world.
Some Facebook pages have had over 7 million hits.
Lori has since partnered with Beyond Scapes to bring her beautiful flowers to the masses.
